The USRSB

The U.S. Roundtable for Sustainable Beef (USRSB) was formed in 2015, bringing together a diverse group of stakeholders that desire to continuously improve the sustainability of U.S. beef production.

Our Community

In total the USRSB is comprised of more than 100 members who share our vision in continuously improving the sustainability of U.S. beef. This diverse set of members includes cow-calf producers, auction markets, feedyards, packers, processors, retail and food service organizations, academic organizations, and conservation organizations. Our membership represents 30 percent of the cattle herd, more than 20 billion pounds of beef processed and more than 70 million consumers across the U.S.

Our Mission

To advance, support and communicate continuous improvement in the sustainability of U.S. beef production by educating and engaging the beef value-chain through a collaborative multi-stakeholder effort.

The U.S. beef value chain is the trusted global leader in environmentally sound, socially responsible and economically viable beef.

Our Role

Since inception, the USRSB has defined sustainable beef and has worked to develop a full set of resources the beef value chain can use to assess their individual sustainability efforts through the USRSB Sustainability Framework. We also focus on education, training and outreach. We do not engage in business to business ventures, but we encourage the use of our Framework in external programs. Additionally, we have supported pilot projects initiated by our members to showcase our Framework. Details on the pilot projects can be found on our website at www.usrsb.org.

Our Framework

The USRSB Sustainability Framework is a set of tools and resources inclusive of High-Priority Indicators, Sustainability Metrics, and Sustainability Assessment Guides. Our framework is intended to help continually improve the sustainability of U.S. beef. But it is not about checking boxes and receiving a rubber stamp of approval; by utilizing the USRSB framework, the beef value chain commits to continually seeking out opportunities to improve. In turn, it is our hope the Framework will connect the consumer to the beef community, answering questions they may have about beef production and providing consumers the confidence that their steak was raised in the most sustainable system in the world. This is an educational experience for all – from the rancher to the consumer.
